RICHMOND, Va. – Huguenot’s final preseason scrimmage lasted only one quarter Thursday night at Richard McFee Field, as lightning brought an early end to the Falcons’ matchup with defending Region 5A champion Indian River.

Indian River controlled much of the opening quarter before lightning in the area forced both teams off the field and began a 30-minute delay.

After waiting through the stoppage, the two programs ultimately agreed to end the scrimmage. With Indian River facing roughly a two-hour trip back to Chesapeake and additional weather concerns still in the area, both sides decided not to resume play.

The shortened night left Huguenot with only one quarter of live work against its final preseason opponent.

Attention Turns to Southeast Classic

Thursday officially closes Huguenot’s preseason slate.

The Falcons have now gone through weeks of practice, the annual Green vs. Gold scrimmage, a full Benefit Game against Hermitage and a weather-shortened test against Indian River.

Now comes a bye week before the games begin to count.

Huguenot will use the extra time to review its preseason work, make corrections and prepare for its regular-season opener against Highland Springs on Friday, September 4.
