Gameday Preview: Huguenot Returns to Cosby Looking to Extend Dominion District Run

RICHMOND, Va. – Nearly three years have passed since Huguenot last lost a Dominion District football game.

The location of that loss is where the Falcons return Friday night.

Huguenot travels to Midlothian for a 7 p.m. matchup against Cosby at 14300 Fox Club Parkway, bringing a 2-0 overall record and 1-0 district mark into its first road Dominion District game of the season. The Falcons enter the week ranked No. 2 behind Varina in each of the local polls recognized by Huguenot Football, while most statewide rankings have Huguenot positioned somewhere inside Virginia’s top five.

Cosby enters at 1-2 under head coach Josh Wild, looking to build on its first victory of the season after defeating Richmond High School for the Arts 44-6 last week.

For Huguenot, however, Friday represents more than the next game on the schedule. Cosby is the site of the Falcons’ most recent Dominion District defeat. Since leaving that field in 2023, Huguenot has not lost another district game and has gone on to capture back-to-back Dominion District championships.

Now the Falcons return looking to keep that run intact.

Different Starts to the Season

Huguenot has opened 2026 with two dominant but very different performances.

The Falcons began the season by traveling to Highland Springs and earning a 28-7 victory in a matchup that tested Huguenot physically from the opening snap. One week later, Huguenot returned home and overwhelmed Clover Hill 68-0, building a 54-0 halftime lead before the second half was played under a running clock.

Through two games, the Falcons have outscored their opponents 96-7.

Cosby’s path to Friday has been more uneven.

The Titans opened their season against a highly regarded Thomas Dale team at Crump Stadium before returning home and losing a defensive battle to James River, 6-0. James River has since improved to 2-0.

Cosby finally broke through last week with a 44-6 victory over Richmond High School for the Arts.

The result gave the Titans their first win of the season, although Friday presents a considerably different challenge against a Huguenot team that has established itself among the area’s highest-ranked programs.

West Leads Young Cosby Offense

Sophomore quarterback Jonathan West leads the Cosby offense.

West completed 6 of 9 passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns against Richmond High School for the Arts, with both scoring passes finding senior Robbie Schiess. Schiess finished with two receptions for 29 yards, turning both catches into touchdowns.

The Titans also received production from several running backs.

Junior Zion Robinson carried three times for 43 yards and a touchdown, while junior running back Tysen Jones and senior running back Konner Olds also found the end zone on the ground.

That gives Huguenot’s defense several different backfield options to account for, even as West continues developing in his first season as Cosby’s sophomore quarterback.

Falcons Defense Carrying Momentum

Huguenot’s defense enters Friday having allowed just one touchdown through two games.

The Falcons set the tone immediately in the opener, limiting Highland Springs to only 27 first-half yards before eventually allowing one late score in a 28-7 victory.

Against Clover Hill, Huguenot went a step further.

The Falcons recorded their first shutout of the season while also producing points themselves. Zion Pleasants stripped the football from a runner, recovered it and returned it for a touchdown, while Carese Boykin scored following a muffed Clover Hill punt.

The production has come from every level of the defense. Jayce Bigelow, Romelo Perry, Chris Green and Zayvon Miller have been active around the football, while Huguenot’s defensive front has helped answer one of the biggest questions surrounding the team entering the season.

The Falcons were known for their athleticism before the season began. Through two weeks, their ability to control the line of scrimmage has become just as important to their success.

Scott Jr. Arrives as Huguenot’s New Record Holder

Friday will also be the first game for Charles Scott Jr. since officially taking over two of the biggest records in Huguenot history.

Scott entered the Clover Hill game within reach of former quarterback Omar Kizzie and left McFee Field as Huguenot’s new career leader in passing touchdowns and total touchdowns.

The junior completed 9 of 10 passes for 212 yards and four touchdowns in the 68-0 victory.

That performance followed a 372-yard, three-touchdown night at Highland Springs, giving Scott 584 passing yards and seven passing touchdowns through two games.

His supporting cast has been equally productive.

Senior Iveon Lewis has continued his record-setting career, while sophomore Kaidyn Bailey has emerged as another major weapon. Bailey followed his first varsity touchdown at Highland Springs with three catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns against Clover Hill.

Najarn Bostic has contributed as a receiver, runner, kickoff returner and punt returner, while Jhamari Cain, Randal Robinson Jr., Aaron Bowling and Jahmeer Jones give the Falcons additional options throughout the offense and special teams.

Back Where the District Run Last Stopped

The larger storyline surrounding Friday night is tied to the location.

Huguenot’s last Dominion District loss came at Cosby in 2023, when the Falcons fell 27-26 in double overtime.

What followed helped define the direction of the program.

Huguenot has not lost another Dominion District game since that night. The Falcons went on to win the district championship in 2024 and repeated as champions in 2025, building a run of consistency that now brings them back to the same field where it last broke.

That gives Friday’s matchup a little extra weight. Cosby represents the last district opponent to beat Huguenot, while the Falcons return to Fox Club Parkway looking to extend a streak that has lasted nearly three years.

Cosby Looking to Build Under Wild

Josh Wild has led Cosby since 2022 and enters Friday with a 20-32 record during his tenure.

The Titans’ lone victory this season came against an RHSA program that has struggled historically and has never defeated Cosby since the Titans opened in 2006 and joined the Dominion District the following year.

That makes Friday a significant jump in competition for Cosby.

Huguenot comes in having beaten Highland Springs on the road and then produced a 68-point shutout in its home opener. The Falcons will look to prevent Cosby’s confidence from last week’s victory from carrying into the early stages of Friday’s game.

Another Warm Road Night

Conditions are expected to remain warm in Midlothian, with temperatures in the mid-80s during the day.

That continues a trend for Huguenot after playing through humid conditions and weather concerns during each of the first two weeks. The opener at Highland Springs was delayed multiple times because of thunderstorms, while the Clover Hill game was moved up in an effort to stay ahead of nearby lightning.

This week, the focus turns back to football as the Falcons make their second road trip of the season.

Protecting the Standard

Huguenot has accomplished plenty through two weeks.

The Falcons have beaten a highly regarded Highland Springs team on the road, recorded a shutout, scored 96 points, surrendered only seven and watched their junior quarterback take over two major career records.

But Friday begins another phase of the schedule.

The Dominion District championship will be determined over the coming weeks, and Huguenot’s next test takes the Falcons back to the field where their current district winning run last stopped.
